Main Text:
Mud tanks are the core containers of drilling mud circulation systems, responsible for critical functions such as drilling fluid storage, mixing, and purification. Their structural design and performance directly influence the operational efficiency of the entire solids control system. Xi’an Black Rhino Industrial Co., Ltd. has specialized in the research, development, and manufacturing of mud tanks for more than a decade. Through structural optimization and material innovation, the company has developed high-performance mud tank products suitable for multiple operational scenarios, which are widely used in global oil drilling, horizontal directional drilling (HDD), and coalbed methane exploration projects.
The mud tanks developed by Xi’an Black Rhino Industrial are generally divided into two main types according to the bottom structure: square-bottom tanks and conical-bottom tanks. The tank body adopts either a flat-plate conical structure or a corrugated structure, welded from steel plates and structural steel to provide excellent structural strength and resistance to deformation.
In terms of materials, the tank body is coated with professional anti-corrosion and anti-rust coatings, while the inner walls are lined with wear-resistant and corrosion-resistant materials, allowing the service life to exceed 15 years, which is significantly higher than the industry average. In addition, the tanks feature a modular assembly design, enabling flexible configuration of tank quantity and capacity according to the operational requirements of overseas projects, making them suitable for drilling operations of various scales.

In terms of application fields, mud tanks demonstrate strong adaptability to a wide range of operational scenarios. In the oil drilling sector, they serve as the core carrier of drilling fluid circulation. When used together with equipment such as desanders and centrifuges, they enable continuous purification and recycling of drilling fluids. In horizontal directional drilling (HDD) projects, mud tanks provide a stable supply of drilling mud for trenchless construction, ensuring borehole wall stability during the crossing process.
For coalbed methane exploration, mud tanks are well suited to the drilling requirements of low-pressure reservoirs, helping to reduce drilling fluid loss and protect the coalbed methane formation. In the wastewater treatment sector, they can also function as temporary storage and treatment containers for industrial wastewater. When combined with flocculation and sedimentation processes, they enable the preliminary purification of wastewater.
Looking ahead, Xi’an Black Rhino Industrial will continue to optimize the intelligent monitoring capabilities of its mud tanks by integrating sensors for liquid level, density, and temperature, enabling real-time visualization and management of mud conditions. This will further enhance the automation level of mud circulation systems and provide efficient and reliable solutions for a wider range of industries worldwide.
